Gásadalur, Faroe Islands
Faraway falls
The views here in the Faroe Islands village of Gásadalur are breathtaking, but getting around is difficult due to high cliffs and treacherous coastline. Back in 2004, the Gásadalstunnilin mountain tunnel was opened, and this isolated village with its hallmark 30-metre waterfall became much easier to witness in person. Even so, the Faroes are hardly a quick hop from most locales: The nearest mainland is over 300 kilometres away in Scotland.

Before a key mountain tunnel opened, visitors were a much rarer sight here in Gásadalur.
