Formentor Lighthouse in Majorca, Spain
Not-so-straight and narrow
In this long exposure photo, the snaking light trails of modern car headlamps complement the shine of a Mediterranean beacon built in 1893, while ancient stars set the night alight even more. This shot was most likely taken in the offseason, since the road to Formentor Lighthouse is closed from about June to September to relieve tourism-fuelled traffic jams. But summer visitors can still walk, cycle or charter a shuttle to this 19th-century tower that marks the northernmost cape of Majorca.

This bright night sky is all a seasoned sailor needs to navigate, but a lighthouse always helps.
