Lion cub, Zambia
Climber cub
The most famous tree-climbing lions live in Uganda, but it seems this intrepid cub is looking to bring the pastime to Zambia. Though they'll be fearsome hunters when they're fully grown, lion cubs are prime targets for other predators, including hyenas and leopards. So when it comes to finding safe hiding spots, whether up a tree or burrowed in the bushes, the craftier the cub the better. Their mothers (and other lionesses in the pride) care for them until about age two, but young cubs are often left unattended for a full day when their parental figures are out on the prowl.

Lion cubs are vulnerable to other predators until they're grown up, but trees provide some relative safety.
