Pedestrian pier in Namdang, South Korea
Peering under the pier
This tongue-like pedestrian pier is meant to offer an elevated perch for appreciating South Korean sunsets, but if peculiar architecture is your pleasure, a peek from below might also pique your interest. And if you fancy a long walk under a short pier, the mudflats of Cheonsu Bay stretch well past the walkway's end during low tide (just bring good gumboots and mind the tide tables). Once you're back onshore, explore Namdang and other villages lining the coast and you'll find the bay's bounty on offer for dinner, including chunky cockles and juicy jumbo shrimp.
Come well-equipped and you can wander way out on the flats here – just mind the tide charts.
