Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, USA
One high light
You can't tell at this zoom level, but we're looking at the tallest lighthouse in the United States. Standing over 60 metres from base to top and boasting a distinctive candy-stripe paint pattern, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse used to rise just a few steps from the beachy shores of the Outer Banks. But in 1999, it had to be relocated from the unstable sands. Now set 450 metres inland, this still-operational icon in the US state of North Carolina is one of the tallest structures ever moved.

This landmark lighthouse is so beloved, the National Park Service all but moved heaven and earth to save it.
