Green-headed tanager
A teal-tinted tweeter
Tanagers are the second-largest bird family in the world, making up about 4% of all bird species, but most types of tanager are endemic to particular regions of Central and South America. The green-headed tanager's only home is here in the Atlantic Forest, a vast bioregion stretching from Brazil into corners of Paraguay and Argentina. Thanks in part to protected reserves and corridors, birdwatchers can spot these dazzling flyers throughout the forest – often even in city parks and gardens.
